About the brewery
Although a brewery existed in the 18th century, the official date of foundation is 1872, the year when an ancestor of today's owner acquired the brewery. During the decades that followed, and in spite of wars, the brewery kept growing. After the second world war, in 1947, the third generation of the Eder family started managing the company. In 1979, Die Groß-Ostheimer Schwanenbrauerei was acquired, driving further expansion. This growth continued over the following years with more breweries being acquired (Aschaffenburger Bavaria-Brauerei, Schlossbrauerei zu Thüngen). Finally in 1998 the Eder family's brewery and the brewery of Heylands merged to create Eder & Heylands Brauerei. A year later Schlappeseppel Braureai was integrated with Eder & Heylands, but as with the earlier acquisitions, the popular Schlappeseppel brand was retained. In 2013, Eder & Heylands was brewing beers under eight different brands: Eder's, Heylands, Bavaria, Alt-Ostheimer, Schlappeseppel, Brown Shuga, Tradewinds and Auszeichnungen.
