About the brewery
Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei is one of the oldest brewers of Schwarzbier. The brewery was created in 1543. Since 1991 the company was taken over by the Bitburger Holding. Shortly after that the brewery was modernized. Today Köstritzer is a leader in dark beer market in Germany. Its beer are exported to over 50 countries all over the world. They brew not only black lagers but also classic pils and other pale lagers.
Köstritzer beer was one of favourite beer of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. During his illness he was on a specific diet consisting only with Köstritzer Schwarzbier.
