About the brewery

The Głubczyce Brewery dates back to the 1850s, when A. Weberbauer bought the city brewery in Głubczyce (from the local authorities) and embarked on a mission to make it the biggest brewery in the region. After the owner's death (some 20 years later) there were many changes in ownership, but never to the detriment of the brewery's facilities or production capacity. Indeed, right up to World War II production continued to increase, culminating in 70,000 hl. in 1938. Predictably, after the war, the brewery was nationalized but it wasn't until 1951 that brewing resumed. With the end of communism, the government began a slow process of privatisation which was finalized in 2004 with Merkury Ltd. buying the brewery now known as Zakłady Piwowarskie Głubczyce. Nowadays the brewery’s production mainly consists of beers produced for supermarket chains.
