Beer News:

Weekend with Birofilia Festival

This weekend on 20 and 21 of June Żywiec Brewery will host the Birofilia Festival, the biggest beer festiwal in Poland.

One of the most important events of the festival will be the Home Beer Contest. Spanning 10 categories this year, including the Polish style of grodziskie, the competition has attracted a record 285 home brewers, who have entered some 782 beers. Apart from the obvious kudos coming from the victory, the winner will get the opportunity to brew his or her Grand Champion in Bracki Browar Zamkowy in Cieszyn.

Home brewers will not be the only ones vying for accolades, with several other contests bound to keep the emotions high. Apart from the Craft Beer Contest and Beer Label Contest there is also one for everyone interested named Piwne Smaki (Beer Flavours). All you need to do to take part is check out the festival’s facebook profile, where a correctly solved quiz on food pairing may bag you a free invitation to cooking workshops held during the festival.

As we’ve come to expect, all those simply wanting to have a good drink during Birofilia will not be left wanting either. The festival marquee is set to house stalls with hundreds of beers, both from Polish Breweries (including many new offerings) as well as those from Aleja Piw Świata (the World Beer Avenue).

Choosing between over 600 brands may not be so easy, but 120 and 150 ml miniature mugs should help you sample more than a few potions on the list. Most of these will come from typical beer countries, such as England, Germany and the USA, but if you feel like trying something more exotic, beers from Sri Lanka, Barbados, Liban and Mauritius are all for the taking. Unless you’re beaten to them by thousands of other beer fans, of course…
