Beer News:

Grand Champion goes on sale

Cieszyński Dubbel, the winner of the Home Beer Contest during the 2014 Birofilia Festival, will soon find its way to pubs and off-licences.

Taking place each year during the Żywiec festival, the Home Beer Contest is widely regarded as the most prestigious event if this kind in the country. The latest edition featured no fewer than 750 beers, but only one could be awarded the hallowed title of Grand Champion, which went to Czesław Dziełak for his dubbel.

This marked the first time in history that a brewer had won the contest for the second time running, the 2013 contest having been dominated by his Imperial IPA. Recommendations for home brewers in Poland don’t get any better than this.

The brew itself has been brewed from six types of malt with the addition of Candi syrup. Typically for the dubbel style, we should expect a full, malty flavour enriched with fruity, possibly caramel notes and a moderate amount of hoppy bitterness.

The drinking experience will no doubt be completely different than in the case of last year’s winner, but at exactly 6pm on December 6 we’ll all find out what magic Dziełak sprinkled into his creation this time around.

You can now win a free round of Dubbel for you and your friends, together with a dedicated goblet. To take part go to
